Red Ex Vol V is the fifth annual one day music festival fundraiser hosted by The Red Museum in Downtown Sacramento. Our goal is to produce a great event for our community and to raise funds for our DIY artist warehouse space.

What is The Red Museum?

The Red Museum is an old fruit-packing warehouse on the outskirts of Mansion Flats that has transformed into an epicenter of experimentation and raw arts culture in Sacramento. We provide affordable practice/studio space to local creatives and occasionally host highly-curated events that bring people of different ages, ethnicities, genders, economic backgrounds, and tastes together to experience new music, performance, food, and visual art for a reasonable entry price. We believe in the cultural value of providing exposure for emerging artists and we never want money to be a barrier between a good artist and a successful artist. We also want the public, no matter their demographic, to have access to this culture through our events.

This is the fifth year we have produced the Red Ex event, which raises funds that help us continue to operate throughout the year. Simply put, this event is how we survive. We’re looking to the community for support, but we are also giving back an event that represents the diversity of the current up-and-coming talent in our city. Sacramento has a warm community of artists and art supporters who are open to experiencing new things, making our city a unique incubator for creativity.

The success of this project will demonstrate that there is a path to helping art spaces survive in a changing and gentrifying city. By galvanizing support from they city, local businesses, and the community, we can ensure that the future of the arts is secure here in Sacramento. The Red Ex event tickets are the foundation of this campaign and we have added other special perks from there. We appreciate any support and hope we will see you soon at The Red Museum!

Headlining Red Ex Vol. V is Automatic, the all-femme, post-punk trio with a motorik beat and rah-rah rhythm. Part of the legendary Southern California label Stones Throw roster, they’re second full-length album was released this past June to critical acclaim. The group is currently wrapping up a string of dates with the Oh Sees before culminating to a performance at Desert Daze festival in Joshua Tree.

Death Insurance is the digital hardcore moniker of Kat Liu, the first artist signed to Sacramento native Andy Morin’s A2B2 label. Hailing from NYC, Kat’s unique blend of ecstasy-inducing drum breaks and banshee vocalization. i’m in your walls is out now on streaming platforms.

Returning to the Red Museum stage is DEFEM, a four piece from Sacramento, comprised of members of local heroes G. Green, Screature, & Tycho. Originally conceived as a weekly free-form jam session and artistic exercise meant to introduce new styles, techniques, and instruments to its four members, DEFEM’s self-titled debut dropped earlier this April.

XOR is the recording project of vocalist Eva Rose, formerly of doom soothsayers CHRCH, and producer/vocalist BAMO, making their live debut. Named after the computational logical operation, the duo seeks to synthesize a diversity of influences, culminating into a monolithic & textured heavy pop aesthetic. The songwriting duo will be accompanied by guitar wizard Robbie Landsburg (Renewer, Beautiful Dudes) & drummer/shredder Alfonso Portela (ex Modern Man).

Sydney Jones leads experimental pop outfit Pilot Waves. Like previous groups of Jones’s, sincerity, musicianship and technicality are the driving forces to a sound that is at once singular and familiar. In tandem, this iteration is a supergroup of sorts, featuring the inimitable stylings of Zach Hake, Elijah Egbert, Jake Gates, & Greta Soos.

Ask anyone in Sacramento, the Snares are the band to see in 2022. Bringing raw energy, killer riffs & a psychedelic twist, this quartet continues the lineage of supreme Sacramento garage rock.

Tassit, the solo project of human chronometer Pat Shelley (current drummer for Spellling), and Noise of Approval, one-man shoegazing pop machine, also join the lineup.

Kris Anaya & Dusty Brown will end the night with a unique set of live dance jams.

This event is ALL AGES.
